Hi here!

Tips from a Frisco Family Photographer (and fellow mom!)

How to prepare for a fun & stress-free family photoshoot with kids might feel a little daunting—but it doesn’t have to be! With the right prep (and a few secret tricks), you can make the experience feel fun, relaxed, and even enjoyable for your little ones.

As a mom and photographer, I’ve worked with families all over Frisco and beyond, and I’ve learned a thing or two about how to set everyone up for a great session.

Here are my top tips to help you feel prepared and excited for your upcoming family photoshoot with kids.

1. What to Wear for a Comfortable Family Photoshoot with Kids

When it comes to kids, comfort is key. If your child hates stiff collars or itchy fabrics, that discomfort will show in the photos.

Soft layers in earthy, neutral tones always photograph beautifully and allow for natural movement and connection.

Need help planning outfits? I recommend Style & Select 🔗—a digital styling service that makes outfit coordination super simple.

2. How to Keep the Vibe Relaxed During Your Family Photoshoot with Kids

I know it’s tempting to hype up the session like it’s the Super Bowl of smiling, but too much pressure can backfire.

Instead, keep the energy light and treat it like a fun family adventure. When kids feel relaxed, their real personalities shine.

3. Pack Smart Snacks (Here’s My Secret!)

One of my go-to tricks? Mini marshmallows.

They’re tiny, non-messy, and they feel like a treat to kids. Plus, they don’t stain clothes or leave crumbs—making them the perfect little bribe if we need it.

(Pro tip: skip the chocolate, crackers, or anything sticky!)

You can also check out this list of mess-free snack ideas for kids 🔗 if you’re looking for backup options.

4. Best Time to Schedule a Family Photoshoot with Young Kids

If your session falls during nap time or right before dinner, it’s game over before we even begin.

Try to schedule your shoot when kids are well-rested and have full bellies. Even better? Bring a water bottle and a few easy snacks just in case.

If you’re not sure what time is best, I’m happy to help you plan based on your family’s routine.

5. Capturing Authentic Moments During Your Family Photoshoot

Toddlers who won’t sit still? Preschoolers showing off their ninja moves?

It’s all part of the magic.

Some of my favorite images come from those unplanned in-between moments—the real stuff that tells your family’s story.

Let go of perfection. Come as you are. I’ll take care of the rest.

6. Trust the Process

I’ve photographed hundreds of families, and I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve (besides the marshmallows).

I’ll guide you the whole way—no need to worry about what to do with your hands or how to get everyone looking the same direction. You just love on your people, and I’ll handle the rest.

Ready to Book?

If you’re in Frisco, McKinney, Allen, or nearby areas and looking to book a family photoshoot with kids, I’d love to capture your family in a relaxed and genuine way.

Let’s document the laughter, the snuggles, and all the perfectly imperfect in-between moments.
